FASTING TO GAIN VICTORY
After losing forty thousand men in battle in two days, the Israelites cried out to God for help. Judges 20:26 says all the people went up to Bethel and “sat weeping before the Lord.” They also “fasted that day until evening.” The next day the Lord gave them victory over the Benjamites. (Excerpt from faithgateway.com) Here, fasting was the pathway to triumph. The children of God, all together, observed a pointed time of fast and prayer after experiencing tremendous defeat. Their spirits were broken and their hearts were contrite. God tuned in to their cries and honored their sacrifice of fasting and in turn he gave them victory. We see here that God is faithful to his word, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” - Psalm 51:17 ESV Thank you for joining us on Wednesday evening for prayer.
